Costco Membership Perks Extend Beyond Groceries: Uncovering Hidden Savings and Services
Beyond bulk buys and the famous food court, a Costco membership unlocks a range of significant savings and exclusive services for its members.

While a Costco membership is widely recognized for its bulk grocery offerings, the iconic $1.50 hot dog combo, and large packages of household essentials, some of the most substantial savings can be found far beyond the typical warehouse shopping experience.
Members gain access to an array of discounts and specialized services, ranging from travel and fuel to gift cards, optical care, and extended warranty coverage, according to information available from the company and various industry reports.
Here are five lesser-known avenues through which shoppers can maximize the value of their Costco membership outside of the traditional retail aisles.
Fuel Savings and Convenience
Purchasing gasoline at Costco stations can significantly help households offset the annual membership fee. These stations frequently offer lower prices compared to many competitors, though the actual savings can fluctuate based on geographic location and individual driving patterns.
An added benefit for members is the ability to check local fuel prices and station operating hours directly through the Costco mobile application before arriving at the pump.
Furthermore, an ingenious feature at Costco fuel stations is the extended length of their hoses, which allows drivers to refuel their vehicles from either side. This design means, as the company's website states, "Whether your gas tank is on the left or right side of your car, you can choose the shortest line," enhancing convenience and potentially reducing wait times.
Executive Membership Rewards
Upgrading to Costco's Executive membership, which costs $130 annually compared to the standard $65 Gold Star membership, provides a valuable 2% annual reward on eligible purchases, capped at $1,250.
Given that the Executive upgrade adds an extra $65 to the yearly fee, members would need to spend approximately $3,250 on qualifying items each year to recoup the additional cost of the upgrade through rewards.
Executive members also enjoy earlier entry to many warehouses, typically starting at 9 a.m., along with supplementary discounts on a selection of Costco Services.
Exclusive Travel Deals
Costco Travel enables members to book comprehensive vacation packages, cruises, hotel stays, and rental cars. Executive members can also accrue their 2% annual reward on qualifying travel expenditures, with the reward credited to their account after the completion of their trip.
One member, who arranged a trip to Costa Rica through the service, reportedly received a $200 Shop Card upon their return, effectively covering the cost of their membership for more than three years.
Discounted Gift Cards
The warehouse club offers gift cards for a wide range of activities, including theme park admissions and city exploration passes, all at a reduced price, as detailed on its website.
