A woman was critically wounded after being subjected to a brutal stabbing attack while jogging along a Brooklyn waterfront path. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. near Shore Parkway and Bay 17th Street in the Bath Beach area of Brooklyn, according to authorities.

New York Police Department officials reported that the victim was jogging eastbound on the Shore Parkway Greenway when she suffered multiple stab wounds to her neck. Following the assault, emergency medical services transported her to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she remains in critical condition.

As of now, law enforcement has not publicly identified the woman, nor have investigators apprehended or identified a suspect in connection with the attack. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.

Sources close to the investigation have indicated that the woman was reportedly training for the upcoming New York City Marathon. The New York Road Runners (NYRR) organization expressed profound sadness regarding the attack.

In a statement, a representative for NYRR said, "We were sad to hear of this horrible attack—our hearts are with her family and the running community." The organization also noted that their records confirm the woman had previously participated in their races, but they could not verify whether she intended to run in Sunday's marathon.

The motive behind the assault remains unclear, and authorities have not determined whether the victim knew her attacker. The location of the incident is a scenic stretch of the waterfront path, offering views of Gravesend Bay, Staten Island, and the iconic Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.
